Given the vast array of benefits that genetic engineering has to offer, it’s no wonder that this technology is becoming more and more commonplace. In fact, according to a report by the National Academy of Sciences, “the number of genes that have been modified using genetic engineering techniques has increased exponentially in recent years.” However, despite the many potential benefits of genetic engineering, there is still a great deal of public concern about genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This concern is primarily due to the fact that GMOs can have unforeseen and potentially negative consequences on human health, the environment, and the economy.
